Carol Perry Artist Profile

I came to Australia from the UK in my late teens and although my venture into watercolour painting came later in life, I have always had an interest in all aspects of art. My early career began with an involvement in colour and design and later I worked in the high end jewellery trade, where a flair for display and presentation confirmed my interest in creating beautiful artwork.

After spending many years in Sydney, I retired to F.N.Q in 2001 where my serious interest in painting began. I found the most incredible colours in the area with the pure white sand and aqua blue sea contrasted against the bright greens and greys of the natural vegetation in surrounding hinterland.

I loved the variety of colour in the tropical flowers and beaches. So I decided to buy 6 primary colours, 3 brushes and a sheet of watercolour paper. I then joined the local art group, and my journey began.

After several years in Cairns I moved to Mackay and once again I found a very sociable art environment to continue my passion. I started entering exhibitions and won prizes for my work. I attended an interesting watercolour workshop offered by a well known local artist, which highlighted the use of different techniques which I still use today.

Since moving to Hervey Bay I have joined  the Art Society, Gallery 5. I enjoy meeting up with my fellow artists and discussing new techniques and gathering inspiration.  I also enter monthly exhibitions and have received commendations for my work.

At home I look out onto a peaceful lake, a haven for birds and wildlife and on most evenings my cat Myo and I enjoy the most beautiful sunsets from my back patio.

I find painting very rewarding. I can lose myself in meditation and sometimes  surprise myself! I hope my paintings give as much pleasure as I receive creating them.
