38th Annual Regional Competitive Art Exhibition (2022) (Past)

Established in 1983, the annual competitive art exhibition run by the Hervey Bay Art Society has become an annual fixture in the Fraser Coast’s cultural calendar.

This competitive art exhibition is an open competition and always attracts excellent artists, both from the Fraser Coast and beyond.

This exhibition is always popular with the public, so if you want your artwork to be seen, this is the exhibition to enter.

This exhibition is held at Gatakers Artspace , 311 Kent St, Maryborough and runs from Fri Jun 17, 2022 through Sun Jul 31, 2022.

Please come and view this exhibition when it is on at Gatakers Artspace . Gatakers Artspace is open daily (weekdays 9:30am – 3:30pm. weekends 9:30am – 2:00pm.) and entry is free.

The Official Opening

The official opening was held on Sat Jun 18, 2022 from 2pm at Gatakers Artspace.

The speakers at the opening were:

Arts & Development Officer Fraser Coast Regional Council Trevor Spohr, Hervey Bay Art Society President Mark Brose, Hervey Bay Art Society Member Julie McGillivray, special guest Fraser Coast Councillor David Lewis, Hervey Bay Art Society vice-President Rolf Sieber and judge Karol Oakley.

Among other things mentioned Trevor congratulated all the artists who entered the competition; Mark noted how important it was for the local community arts organisations like ours [Hervey Bay Art Society] to be able to access public art spaces [such as Gatakers and the like]; Julie did acknowledgement of country; Councillor David Lewis mentioned that events such as this at facilities such as this [Gatakers] enables the Fraser Coast’s Cultural status to be enhanced; Rolf specifically thanked all the sponsors particularly during these tough [covid] times; Karol mentioned that every painting gets thoroughly looked at when she judges and that she looks for impact, skill, storytelling and that ‘little bit extra’ in making her decisions.

The opening was well attended and all present enjoyed the great art on offer presented so well in such a great space that Gatakers Artspace provides.

Results

Results were announced at the official opening at 2:30pm (event begins at 2:00pm) on Sat Jun 18, 2022 at Gatakers Artspace, 311 Kent St, Maryborough. The judge for this competition was Karol Oakley. The judge’s comments about the exhibition and award winners can be found here.

The Hervey Bay Art Society very much appreciates the work Karol Oakley has done in judging this competition and for her efforts in conducting the aforementioned workshop.

The Hervey Bay Art Society appreciates the attendance of Councillor David Lewis at this event. Councillor Lewis has always been a strong supporter and advocate for the arts and his presence and the supportive sentiments expressed in his speech were greatly appreciated.

The Hervey Bay Art Society appreciates Fraser Coast Regional Council Arts and Cultural Development Officer Trevor Spohr introducing and attending the opening of this exhibition. The Hervey Bay Art Society also appreciates the work put in by all the staff at Gatakers Artspace, with a special mention to Patrice Chapman, who were excellent.

If you downloaded a copy of the Entry Form (or obtained a hard copy from Gallery 5) before Apr 22, 2022 then please download the current version or take note of the changes detailed below.

On Apr 22, 2022 the Entry Form was changed to show that “The Delivery of works to Gatakers” changes from Friday 6th June 2022 to Monday 6th June 2022.

On May 6, 2022 the ‘Entry Due Date’ was extended a week. It is now noon Friday May 13, 2022. Previously it was noon Friday May 6, 2022. The entry forms have not been updated to reflect this but entries will be accepted now until noon on Friday May 13, 2022.
