‘I can’t remember a time when I didn’t draw’, says Fiona. ‘It’s always been a compulsion (and the cheapest form of therapy)’.
Fiona emigrated from Liverpool, England to Melbourne, Australia with her family as a ‘Ten Pound Pome’ in the early sixties.
After finishing her schooling and working for a couple of years she hopped on a passenger ship bound for Southampton. She had just turned 18. This was the start of a seven-year working holiday. She lived and worked in Liverpool, Zimbabwe, Israel, Greece, Turkey and Jersey in the Channel Islands. Eventually returning to Melbourne to take up a 3 year, full-time Diploma of Art and Design (Graphics) at Swinburne University’s Prahran campus in 1984. She says her travels and life-experience at 27 gave her an advantage and were fodder for ideas.
She worked as a graphic designer/desktop publisher between 1987 and 1997 before starting her own graphic design business, which she ran from her home in Caulfield. During these years she worked on illustration, magazine layout, advertising storyboards for TV, logo design, books and corporate identity projects. She also worked in-house for banks, the Public Transport Corporation, Councils and small advertising agencies.
In the last 20 years, she became a Diversional Therapist where she worked in aged care facilities and ran art classes and other creative projects for the residents.
In 2015 Fiona and her husband moved to Hervey Bay and she worked in community care before retiring in 2021.
Being now free to indulge her life-long passion for art, she enjoys all mediums but specializes in printmaking, portraits and figurative work.
Commissions of both two and four-legged loved ones will be gratefully accepted!
