The Hervey Bay Art Society extends a very warm welcome to new members. We look forward to enjoying your company and we invite you to participate in all our activities.

Our Aim

The aim of HBAS is to encourage appreciation of the arts.  To achieve this the Society offers the following activities to members:
  • Regular weekly workshops conducted by experienced tutors and mentors.
  • Workshops and seminars conducted by invited art teachers with discounts to members.
  • The opportunity to exhibit your work for sale in our Gallery (registered volunteers only).
  • Competitive art exhibitions where members have the opportunity to win awards and prizes.
  • Access to our library of books and art videos.
  • Social activities and art orientated bus trips.

Monthly Newsletter

Members can receive a copy of our monthly newsletter either by e-mail (for this option you need to provide your e-mail address on the membership application form) or by post for a small fee to cover the cost of postage.
The newsletter includes the requirements for the upcoming monthly exhibition in Gallery 5.  Printed copies of the newsletter are also available in the foyer.

General Meetings

Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month starting at 10.00am.  Our Annual General Meeting is usually scheduled for September.  All members are invited to attend the meetings to have a say in the general running of the Society and to keep up to date with important information.

Public Liability Insurance

HBAS has a Public Liablity Policy currently providing a Limit of Liability of $20m for any one occurrence.  Details of this Policy can be accessed through the Management Committee.

Membership Fees

The annual fee for membership of $30 includes a $5 joining fee for new members. The joining fee is a contribution towards the cost of maintaining our wonderful facility and other assets owned by the society which new members can enjoy.  Membership forms are available on this page.

Member Gallery Duty

We aim to have our Gallery open 7 days a week 9.00am - 3.00pm to display all of our members' art.  However these hours rely on member volunteers being available for reception duty. 
Members who hang their paintings for sale in the Gallery are expected to do some Gallery duty.  This could be reception duty to keep the Gallery open or other volunteer roles involved in running the Society.  Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Display of Paintings or 3D Art in the Gallery

Only members can hang paintings or display 3D art in the Gallery apart from art exhibitions that are open to non-members. Members who hang their paintings for sale in the general Gallery area must be a registered volunteer.  Guidelines for Volunteer Gallery Duty are available from the Committee.

Commission on Sales

HBAS receives a commission on all items sold in the Gallery.  This income helps to cover the Gallery operating costs and expenses.
When you sell a painting the commission is determined based on volunteering records.  A commission scale is available from the office.


All artwork displayed in Gallery 5 must the the original work of the artist/member and not breach any copyright laws. Further information can be found on the Disclaimer Page.
